Hello people of the Unseen!
It’s your (least) favourite overstressed game developer here back with another Dev Dive!
What’s a Dev Dive you ask? Well… read the previous two dives, I’m not in the mood to explain it right now.
Anyhoo!
Since last month’s dive, I’ve made quite a bit of progress! And I have some really neat things to show off, as well as a very important announcement to make!
So, let’s make haste, and make the dive!
Let’s start off with that important announcement I mentioned…
Depths Unseen now has an official Discord Server!
Ever since I first joined Discord, I’ve always had the idea to make a server for Depths Unseen, somewhere for people to discuss the game, and share any creations they make for it, while also giving sneak peeks at things to come!
And now, after a few months of hesitation, and thinking… it’s here!
Join today, and become part of the Depths Unseen community!
In both of the previous dives, I mentioned The Adit, and finally… after a little too long, it’s finally in the game and functional.
But The Adit isn’t the only new room as you can see, there’s another one, one which is slightly larger… more important… and a key step in Winston’s journey through the Depths.
This room is none other than the entry point to the main hub of the chapter, and the home of a new ally…
Speaking of that ally.
(note: this concept art was made before I actually had an idea for what this character would be called.)
This entry point is the workspace of a new character named CALI!
CALI’s purpose was to take staff keycards, process them, and let the staff through into this “hub”. Though… in her current state, CALI can’t take keycards, as she’s in an offline mode, and will only wake back up if someone is to trigger the emergency reboot… someone who needs her help… someone who is currently squinting at her all confused…
As you can probably tell, I’ve been quite busy adding new things to the game, as well as getting new things set up for it too, but trust me when I say most of the time since the last dive was spent either fixing issues with Unity, or tweaking/improving other things already within the game, such as the bottomless pits, which now have spikes, or the lights, which I’ve managed to make look way nicer than they did previously.
But I’ve also done more work with Winston, making him less clunky, and stiff, and more fluid and fun, he obviously still has his jank, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nowhere near what it is right now!
And finally, to end off this month’s dive, here’s a fact about Depths Unseen!
Did you know:
Today (October 25th) marks the day Depths Unseen began development back in 2022!
Back then, the game was entirely different, and for quite a while it stayed in preproduction hell, with me constantly scrapping stuff, and changing plans, and I only actually started working on the game in Unity late last year!
But now we’re here, 3 years later, with a Steam Page, Discord Server, and a monthly series of dev updates.
Here’s to three more! Just let’s hope I actually get stuff done within a reasonable amount of time.
But with that, this marks the end of our dive into the Unseen.
As always I value your continued support greatly, and I’m hoping that with the Discord Server I can grow an amazing and talented community.
See you all next month! When the penultimate month of the year comes to town!
Have fun with Depths Unseen!
