For rotating modes in classic, players no longer vote. This allows players to know what to expect before they queue.
Previously, players would occasionally queue for classic with the expectation of playing the active mode, then be disappointed when it was voted against. Modes were voted for 90% of the time on average, but this 10% was still frustrating. Now what you see is what you get, which we believe is a cleaner design.
Additionally, we're retiring Tower Defense as a rotating mode. It will still be playable in custom games. We're sorry to Tower Defense fans - it just didn't have broad support from the community and was frequently voted against.
As always, more popular modes show up in the rotation more frequently.
Mini & Wumbo
Players now get 1 reroll for their opening Wumbo fighter to increase parity between players
Hypercarry: Attack speed and lifesteal/spell vamp: 3.5% --> 3.2%

Aristocrat
Starting income: 5 --> 4
Income for building T6: 3 --> 4
Income for upgrading T6: 10 --> 13
Shifting power budget into Aristocrat's ability.
Champion
Income penalty on wave 11: -10 → -13
High pick rate and win rate.
Evolution
Starting gold: 2 → 1
Very high pick rate. A small nerf because we can't ignore Evolution's low win rate and don't want to penalize a mastermind just for being fun and well-liked. Evo's pick rate should decrease and stabilize over time as players realize it's not a consistently winning mastermind.
Fiesta
Gold gained from leaking decreased by 1 on waves 7-13 and 2 on waves 14-21.
High pick rate and slightly high win rate. This change shaves off a small amount of power, while not affecting pro leaks in the early game, where they are most impactful.
Miner
Starting gold penalty: -15 --> -14
Low win rate.
Shepherd
Sheep: Damage increased by 10%
Sheep: Shear Resilience: Damage reduction: 20% --> 25%
Low pick rate and slightly low win rate.
Stash
Stash gain increased by 3.2% on average
Low pick rate and win rate.
Yolo
Starting gold: 3 --> 4
Low win rate.
The high pick rates of Champion and Evolution are warping fighter and spell picks. We predict things will stabilize, so we're not making too many fighter and spell balance changes this patch.
Smite
Gold: 78 --> 80
Slightly low pick rate and win rate.
Infiltrator / Orchid
Attack speed increased by 1.6%
Slightly low pick rate and low win rate.
Dwarf Banker / Big Wig
Damage increased by 1.8%
Low pick rate and slightly low win rate.
Lumerian
Damage decreased by 2.4%
High pick rate and slightly high win rate.
Heroic Scrappy
Wind Up: Gold cost: 50 --> 40
Wind Up: 15% splash + 20% attack speed --> 12% splash and attack speed
Wind Up: AOE radius: 200 --> 150
High win rate. There was a bit too much power budget in Wind Up, which was warping when you could send against it.
Ghost Knight
Health decreased by 1.3%
Slightly high usage rate and win rate.
Centaur
Damage increased by 2.1%
Low usage rate.
Kraken
Health decreased by 1.3%
Slightly high usage rate and win rate.
Wave 20: Maccabeus
Attack speed decreased by 5.6%
Maccabeus was so strong that players highly prioritized tanks to stall the wave instead of trying to clear (or at least damage) the wave.
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If anything is being more closely monitored than usual, it will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:
Strong: Cartel, Priestess of the Abyss, Cursed Casket, Pawn Shop
Weak: Castle
Increased the frequency of PvE and decreased the frequency of Giga Mercs, based on data of player preferences
Capped unit hitboxes, so large units don’t block you from clicking smaller adjacent units
Fixed Evolve cost for units with an active ability that increases its value like Veteran
Fixed the display resolution mistakenly being reset to the highest one available, despite having set a lower one
Decreased bonus income in PvE
Duo Change
Duos who are 200+ rating apart now converge in rating towards each other. The magnitude of the convergence is based on the size of the rating gap.
This helps to reduce smurf boosting while still allowing friends to play with each other and without affecting most normal duos.
