Development Update: A New Beginning – The Playground

The old alleyway intro has been fully retired.

In its place, players will now start their experience in a quiet neighborhood playground, bathed in dim streetlight and uneasy stillness. At first glance, it may feel familiar… even safe. But as with everything in Liminal Shroud, that comfort doesn’t last long.

Welcome to the Playground

This playground isn’t just scenery—it’s fully interactive and designed to draw players in before slowly unraveling.

You can:

  • Ride the merry-go-round

  • Climb and slide down the playground slides

  • Wander between swings, benches, and jungle gyms

  • Explore at your own pace as the atmosphere subtly shifts

The space is intentionally calm at first. Crickets chirp, lights hum softly, leaves scatter across the pavement. But if you linger… you’ll start to notice things that shouldn’t be happening.

A swing begins to move on its own.

A shape stands just beyond the light.

Eventually, players will discover a bulletin board covered in missing person posters, layered and weathered as if they’ve been there far too long. Interacting with the board triggers a pivotal moment.

The world shifts.

A mysterious door appears, standing where no door should exist... Silent, impossible, and inviting.

Crossing the Threshold

When you step through the doorway, there’s no turning back.

Crossing that threshold marks the moment you become trapped in the Liminal Shroud, fully pulled into the world beyond reality, where the rules no longer apply and escape is uncertain.

This new opening is designed to:

  • Ground the horror in familiar spaces

  • Encourage exploration before fear

  • Let tension build naturally rather than immediately overwhelming the player

  • Create a stronger narrative transition into the core experience of the game

Why the Change?

We wanted the opening moments of Liminal Shroud to feel quietly unsettling, letting dread creep in rather than strike all at once. The playground gave us the perfect balance of nostalgia, innocence, and unease, and it better represents the themes of memory, loss, and liminal spaces that define the game.
