Welcome to Glacial Strata.
With Glacial Strata, our focus shifted toward speed and explosive interactions. This is a biome where the environment is a hazard AND a tool. Movement is faster, encounters are more dynamic, and clever use of your surroundings can turn the tide of a swarm in seconds.
This isn’t about slowing you down. It’s about letting you lean into the chaos.
Glacial Strata introduces a range of mechanics that change how you move, fight, and mine:
Smooth Ice
Large frozen surfaces boost your movement speed, but at a cost. Reduced control makes sharp turns difficult, forcing you to think ahead. Perfect for escaping a swarm… if you can handle the slide.
Icicles
Fragile crystals litter the terrain. Shatter them, and you’ll trigger a cascade of falling icicles from above. These can damage anything beneath, dwarves and glyphids alike. Use them wisely.
Cryo Exploders
The local glyphids have adapted. Some now detonate with freezing blasts instead of fiery ones - use the explosions wisely and you can slow your enemies. The environment isn’t the only thing working against you.
Let’s Break The Ice
Not all terrain is equal. Varying densities of ice and rock create a more dynamic mining experience, forcing you to adapt your approach as you carve your way forward.
With Glacial Strata entering the biome pool, main missions now offer greater variety in biome goals without increasing the number required for progression.
That means more options when choosing your progression path and the freedom to skip challenges you might be stuck on to chase ones more appropriate. Your route through Hoxxes just got a lot more personal.
Glacial Strata is dangerous, but it rewards players who learn to use it. Slide through swarms, trigger environmental traps, and turn the biome itself into a weapon.
This is the final piece of the Heavy Duty Expansion puzzle, but next week, we will reveal what’s coming in the FREE update that launches along with the DLC. What could it be? The possibilities are endless.
