TL;DR = I'm releasing a new game which is the successor to this game. Check it out.

Short Version

Greetings. Starting your week out with some good news / bad news for this game you probably forgot was in your library.

Bad News: TableTop Soccer is dead as I can no longer support it ːAngelBallː (explained below)

Good News: I'm releasing TableTop Soccer: Redux on March 3rd, and there is a demo out right now.

Long Version

OG TableTop Soccer

I released the TableTop Soccer almost 10 years ago. It was my first real game project, and originally I designed and released it for mobile (iOS/Android). I then ported it to Steam and released it here. At that time I thought it was a good idea to create my own server in the cloud to act as the multiplayer server, which meant that players on all platforms could play together. It also meant that you could start a game on your PC, then continue it later from your phone (a feature I don't think anyone ever used lol)

Well it turned out that wasn't a great idea, for a bunch of reasons. It meant that I had to force all players to be online just to play the game, and I know we all hate that. It also meant I had to keep paying for the server to be online for this game to work. Not to overshare with you all, but I've spent more money keeping that server going for 10 years than I ever made from this game.

Well after 10 years of running, unfortunately that server is now sooooo far out of date, and the version of Java I used to make it is so wildly out of date it's almost old enough to buy beer in some countries. At this point I can no longer keep the server running, which means this game cannot run anymore. I will be requesting that Valve remove it from the store in the coming weeks.

TableTop Soccer: Redux

Knowing that the end was coming for the original, I started making a successor to this game. I always felt like while the implementation of the original game was ... rough? Janky? .. but the idea behind the game was good so I thought it deserved a sequel of sorts.

It took me way longer than expected (shocker) to actually finish it, but I'm extremely happy to say it's now ready to be released. This version was built from the ground up for Steam only, which crucially means that it uses Steams networking for multiplayer. So no more cloud server to worry about. You no longer have to be online to play this game. I also learned a fair bit in the last 10 years and I think you'll agree that the new version is significantly more polished and fun than the original.

I don't want to turn this post into a breakdown of the new game, but I'd really encourage you to check out TableTop Soccer: Redux. It's releasing on March 3rd, but you'll find a Demo for the game is already listed on the store page which allows you to play solo and online games and get a good feel for it. I could really use your support to make the next game a success so please check it out!
