Sebastian here!
Sadly summer is almost over… but our Summer Dev Update is here!
It’s been a few busy months, and we've been heads-down building some of the most requested features and improvements for City20.
We are going to take a look back at everything we've been cooking that you will be able to play in our next patch! And maybe a little glimpse into what's coming next, who knows!
That said, let's get right into it!
We've focused on introducing a whole new layer of social behavior to make your interactions with NPCs more dynamic and believable.
If you ask an NPC where someone is and they're nearby, that NPC will actually come to you. And if you knock on a door and a roommate answers, you will be able to ask them to fetch the person you're looking for, if they are at home at the moment.
NPCs will proactively approach you to deliver important messages, like telling you that another NPC is looking for you and wants to give you a quest.
The NPC were tired of waiting, they are eager to have a chat with you!
You will be able to keep track of your history with each NPC, directly from the talk UI or in the Society Tab. This log will help you remember past interactions and what you’ve done together.
Quite useful after loading your game after a long time!
No more trying to awkwardly match an NPC’s walking pace! With the help of a button, you will be able to automatically follow the NPC who is escorting you somewhere, making quests and navigation much smoother.
When an NPC talks about an object or a location, they will point to it, giving you a clear visual clue about what they're talking about.
You asked for more QoL features and we listened! This is just the beginning of the many improvements we will add to make your time in City20 more enjoyable - leaving aside the mood of the city…
We will be introducing the ability to sleep on benches and sofas, which means you can now save your game anywhere without the need for a bed. You can also rest on them - and chairs too! You can skip time without the need to be eepy! ZZzzz
NPCs will collect items you drop on the ground after roughly one day has passed. Additionally, dead NPCs will now decompose and disappear after 3-4 days, keeping the city cleaner, with the addition of a few bones… even though the end result will be less calcium-heavy!
We’ve made some key improvements to the UI to help you manage your time and tasks. Now, you’ll get clearer feedback on shop closing times, so you can keep an eye on the clock and avoid getting abruptly kicked out.
Also, we’ve revamped the diary notes, which will include more detailed information for the quests:
Progress percentage
Deadline Countdown
Reward Preview
We hope that these changes will help you stay on top of your tasks!
Twelve types of blueprint manuals have been printed, with many volumes scattered throughout the city.
Each one dynamically unlocks a random recipe related to its subject, offering a fresh experience with every new game. To assist in their discovery, bookshelves will visually indicate the presence of books as you approach them.
Find them all, unlocking blueprints could never get any easier!
That's right, the most requested feature will finally be here! Back up your inventory with a brand new backpack! Explore the map to find it or buy it now from Mozga's Emporium!!! This is not a sponsored bit but hey - Mozga… I’m always a call away.
While the city's complex simulations are quite CPU-heavy, we're constantly working to make the game lighter and more accessible for everyone. We hear you, Steam Deck users!
A scale for the HUD/UI will be added to make everything more readable, and capped the graphics settings to ensure a smooth experience on smaller screens.
We've also been hard at work squashing the bugs you've reported over the past few months. Thank you for your continued help and patience! We are committed to providing the most stable experience possible.
Aaaand with that, our Summer Dev Update comes to an end...
...but wait, are you still here? We like your dedication! As a reward for sticking with us, here's a little sneak peek at our next major update.
We are already preparing the next major update, working on new intricate systems and testing how the city will react to them. This is just the beginning… City20 is about to get a lot more dangerous.
Get ready for new quests, deeper lore, and a new threat that will change everything!
Surprise surprise: Enemies are coming! Find the secrets buried in the first version of our new bunkers, with more areas to explore and new challenges to overcome.
Stay tuned for our next update, and thank you for your incredible support!
See you at our next Monthly Dev Update!
