We just dropped a gameplay video update recently to showcase the new trade and fortify mechanic. Trading allows the faction to gain various amounts of gold or items, where as fortify will upgrade the castle to allow more recruiting troop capacity.
In typical 4X fashion, you can manage the faction's economy from the world map. Resources will spawn at the villages and if there is an accessible route, you can send a trade convoy to fetch the resource. Likewise, the opposing forces can also head out to the same location, and see who gets it first. The gold accumulated can be used to fortify castles at the frontlines to help in recovering your armies faster.
