Investigating is a hard job. You wouldn’t want to become the typical detective so consumed by his case that he can never let it go, becomes crazy and loses his friends and his family in the process. His kid cries because he misses their graduation and their birthday, so when the kid grows up, he starts drinking a lot. In the end, turns out the detective didn't just ruin his life with this case: he also ruined his kid's life. All that mess because he didn't keep track of time.
Dinocop is not that typical detective. That's why he has a watch and lives alone.
