Recipe for Disaster Developer Update #4

Recipe for Disaster · published 19 Jul 2021, 16:00 UTC

All newsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

Hi everybody, I hope you’re all well! I’ve got some exciting news to share with you today. Having considered all of the excellent feedback that was submitted following our public demo at Steam Next Fest we can now reveal our early access plans and roadmap. I’d also like to talk a little bit about our system for implementing community feedback going forwards and how this will be reflected in the schedule of planned updates.

Early access roadmap

Content at early access release

Level selector - Each level will come with its own set of objectives tied to a locale. If you played our Steam Next Fest demo you will be familiar with the peaceful small town/rural setting, and we’ve recently been working on the bustling downtown stage. Check out the tenements and urban amenities!

Employee skill progression - Off the back of the demo we found that this was one of the most highly requested features from the community. Staff will now gain experience in specific skill categories as they complete associated tasks. Not only will this experience improve their performance, but it will also allow them to unlock perks which grant additional benefits that help to support the wider team.

Recruitment changes - Another much requested feature which will add an additional layer of challenge. The recruitment pool is now limited which will mean that when you find yourself short staffed you’ll probably have to compromise on the quality of new recruits. Conversely once your restaurant starts to gain a good reputation, you’ll attract highfliers who come with hefty price tag.

Kitchen and front of house roles - Recipe for Disaster will only get more and more chaotic as we introduce new features during early access, so we thought we’d add a tool early on to help you get organised! We’re currently working on a uniform editor and grouping tool which will allow you to assign staff to particular roles and provide visual cues as to the tasks that they will be performing.

Localisation - We are just in the process of confirming the final details on this but the game will be available to play in a selection of languages at EA launch. Exact details on which languages will be included will be revealed in the next few weeks.

Initial modding support with Workshop - We’re really keen to see what the community can come up with here! A feature that has been requested is the ability to import cookbooks and recipes created by other users, and this is now possible. You’ll also be able to share your custom uniform templates for other players to enjoy.

To show our progress on these features, we’ll be releasing a few update videos over the coming weeks so you can see for yourselves how they work in practice.

Planned for development and community feedback

Please be aware that this section of the roadmap is a broad overview of our plans leading up to a final, full release and that the precise order of updates is not included here. Rest assured though that we will release detailed information about the first update shortly before early access begins.

Major content updates will be pushed every 4 - 8 weeks, with the exact frequency being determined by the level of community feedback that we receive at certain points on the timeline. As with Rise of Industry we believe that listening to and responding to player’s feedback will be central to development during early access, and you will be able to submit critical feedback and feature requests through an in-game form and via a dedicated channel on our Discord.

I hope that’s provided some clarity on our EA plans and given you lots to get excited about! As always thanks for stopping by and check back soon for another progress update.
