Hi everyone,

It's been a while since we released a build and I feel like you need an update. Since April development has been erratic due to a few distractions:

  • In April we exhibited at VRLA and it was fantastic. We received tons of in-person usability feedback and spoke to 100s of people about how they're using/building/designing VR, all of which is helping us decide where to go with the product.
  • We've been investigating ways to make 3D drawing easier. As great as 3D drawing is today, it feels like the true potential hasn't been reached. Our eyes aren't very good depth sensors, and our arms are only good at drawing some curves smoothly. In VR we can bend space and control the entire visual feed - there must be a better way to match the drawing experience to our bodies. This could easily take up _all_ our time, but frankly your feedback from the real product is even more valuable, so we're prioritizing the most promising ideas and trying to get the good ones into the product ASAP.

That said, we have built some new stuff, which will be released in the next few weeks:

  • dark/light mode
  • increased contrast in lots of places and generally tweaked colors to make things more visible
  • lots of changes to the selection/erase UI
  • when you draw on a plane you should be able to revisit it, perhaps move the plane around, like you would a piece of paper. Haven't settled on a UI yet but we're getting there!

Thanks to everyone who's using the tool, and please if you have any feedback jump on the forum or get us on [email protected] - we love it.

Cheers

Community13 Feb 2019Massive Release: Cross Platform MultiplayerThis is by far the biggest and most exciting Sketchbox release ever. We spent the last 6 months building real-time collaboration for Sketchbox, which lets up to 16 people, on any VR headset, design together with built in VOIP. Many of our beta testers have replaced in person meetings, with Sketchbox meeting. You can now act out interactions in VR, without writing any code, using Wizard Mode. We…Game update31 Jul 2018Release: Text & Copy Between ScenesText Input Definitely our most requested feature, you can now add text to any scene. Text will behave exactly like any other object, which means it can be snapped, resized and grouped. Comfort Mode For our users that are susceptible to motion sickness, we've added comfort mode, which applies an FOV limiting effect when moving around the scene, much like in Google Earth. It is off by default and…Community25 May 2018Release: Scale for ModelsOver the last two weeks we focused on scale. And I’m excited to announce that you can now import models with the correct scale and see the dimensions of a model. Import Models with Scale When importing a model into Sketchbox (GLTF, OBJ or FBX) Sketchbox will read the model file, and import the model with whatever units were in the file (mm, cm, m, km, in or ft). Using ‘Model Settings’ you can c…
