Early Access Release Announcement

JOY OF PROGRAMMING - Software Engineering Simulator · published 13 Dec 2023, 10:20 UTC

All newsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

It's been almost a year since the first announcements of JOY OF PROGRAMMING on imgur and reddit/r/games, that gathered a lot of interest. A lot has happened since then. Our little community grew, the game found a publishing partner, several playtests were had, bugs were fixed, new features, machines and levels were added to the game. And finally the game is ready to be launched publicly. There is still a lot more content in my backlog that I want to add, several features need polishing, there is definitely room for performance optimization and there are probably some bugs waiting to be discovered. Nevertheless, a solid Early Access experience awaits:

  • 35 challenges with varying difficulties across different categories
  • Over 50 programmable machines and sensors
  • Weekly challenges (that might be more of a monthly thing during early access)
  • Leaderboards for the best solutions
  • A purely code-driven level editor (that I'm also using internally to create the challenges included in the game; guides and HOWTOs for the level editor will come a little later)
  • Localization into several languages (though the programming related parts are always in English)

Please mark you calendars for January 30th and I hope to see you then for the Early Access release of JOY OF PROGRAMMING.
