What's up?

It's been 5 years already...

I still remember that night, Dec 18th of 2017, 01:00. I was sitting at my desk, tired from a day full of work, yet still trying to release Battle Splash 2.0 as intended, since all the presses had passed words. Finally, the game came up after several hours, and I was finally relieved. But that's not the end of the story...

For the record, Battle Splash 2.0 was not intended as a commercial game from the ground up. It was my hobby project, just to see how far I can push myself forward. It was 10 years ago, I was very young, very passionate, and despites years of experience of programming (yes, I started programming when I was 14), Battle Splash 2.0 remains the hardest game I've ever created up to this day. Thus, I've made a lot of mistakes, from game development to marketing, driven from my own inexperience and over confident.

As the result, the game was not performing well for the pass 5 years. It was too big, too ambitious for one person to handle. It was more like a tech demo rather than a full feature game. The only thing that keeps me going is there are still some people who really enjoy this game. I've watched their streams, watched how the talked about it, and analyzed its features, my decisions, etc... It was really magical for me, since people understand my intentions, my passion for this game, and I really appreciate that...

However, the elephant is still in the room: what would I do from here? Well, turns out I can't keep going forever, and thing has to end, one way or another. Don't get me wrong, my time of making Battle Splash 2.0 was a fantastic time, and I never regretted making it. Yet, it's time for me to let it go...

...But not in a sense that I'll abandon this game, just that I can't invest lot of time into it. So now I decide to release Battle Splash 2.0 at this time on Sep 26th 2023, along side with some changes...

What changed?

The way people enjoy the game.

As of now, Battle Splash 2.0 is a whole package, and people have pay full price for it. But I've realized that the game offers less content than it should right now, and it is a huge problem. The world is different now than 5 years ago, even 2 years ago, things already drastically changed. Thus, I decide to split the game into parts: the base game and DLCs. The base game will have everything necessary for you to enjoy Battle Splash 2.0, and the DLCs will provide additional contents for it. Once you own the DLC, it's yours to keep, no additional money needed. You might have to play the game to unlock it, but there will be no real-currency involve, except for the price of the DLC itself.

Also, the base game price will get significantly drop as well, so that it will be more accessible to lots of players. I've realized that Battle Splash 2.0 really needs online play for its coop/competitive to work (through lots of play test sessions years ago)....

Which brings us to the next "giraffe" in the room as well:

What about the Early Access people who purchased the game before?

Free DLCs, just for them only!

I really, really want to thanks everyone who supports this game from day 1, and really hopes for its bright future. Yes, you! Thank you! And by thanking, I'll give away some DLCs FOR FREE, but EXCLUSIVELY to everyone who purchased the game before Sep 25th 2023. The details about the Free DLCs will be on each DLC releases, so keep an eye on the news. It'll be my token of gratitude to everyone who's been helping me improving Battle Splash 2.0!

Closing words, and any more thought?

Wow, it's a very long post already! I guess that's all I wanted so say. Battle Splash 2.0 was my dream. Steam was my dream. It came true, since Battle Splash 2.0 was voted "YES" when Steam Greenlight still existed. It was not a fully realized dream, yet it was a beautiful dream regardless, and I'm proud that I've made my dream come true. That said, time for me to wake up, it's been too long already, and time for a new start. This time, I think I've learnt my lesson. You will still be hearing from me and Battle Splash 2.0 soon, because I still have tons of thing with this game, and the post release will be hectic as well...

So, any thought on this matter? Or do you want to ask me anything more? I can't guarantee I will answer all, but I'll make sure I read them...

Happy Splashing everyone!

Wishing all the Bests,

Battle Splash 2.0's Creator,
Hung Mai
