Greetings, Jelly squads!
Let's take a walk through the evolution of our vibrant Jelly World on screen, and how we've tweaked it three times to make it pop, unforgettable, and oh-so adorable!
First tweak: All about making you LOOK! It's design for the eye!
In the early stages of development, we wanted our game visuals to be eye-catching enough to seize your attention. We wanted to keep it interesting, without overwhelming you, so we simplified the amount of information conveyed through the art.
At this stage, color and shape were pretty much the only visual cues. We went for bold styles, like the large vibrant blocks of solid color combined with thick, hand-drawn outlines to create a look that was simple yet impactful.
Second tweak: All about making you REMEMBER! It's design for the backstory!
Midway through the development, after validating our core gameplay, we started to layer in a more detailed world view and story design. With the story guiding us, we continued the bold color block representation from the first phase, while our visual elements and atmosphere leaned towards a more concrete and joyful expression.
Each world's atmosphere was finalized during this phase. For instance, the initial adventure of our jelly began in a garden filled with a lively celebratory atmosphere. Hence, our first map lit up with enormous blooming flowers and festive confetti floating in the air. Other maps included the soft sandy beach littered with swim rings, the mysterious deep-sea harboring massive machinery, and so forth.
Third tweak: All about making you LOVE! It's design to be cute!
Towards the end of development, as the level design became clearer, we made a third adjustment to the art. This time, our aim was to unify all five map scenes under a softer, cuter visual style that could reflect more detailed settings.
In addition to refining the scenic art, we also created many adorable character designs. They're all jellies, of course! We've got the energetic Sunflower Jelly, a master of machinery; the gourmet Dolphin Jelly, a cooking whiz; the shy Octopus Jelly, a stone enthusiast; the elegant Bat Jelly, a born musician, and many more.
This is a delightful and joyous co-op game. We hope you and your gaming partner have an amazing experience!
