Alone in the Dark aims to give something familiar to old players and on the other hand something fresh to new players. Not an easy task with already six of those games out there! In his interview, Mikael Hedberg emphasized once again that Alone in the Dark is not meant as a sequel, neither a remake, but rather something new in a sense of tearing old things apart and putting them back together. Simply a love letter to the original. Alone in the Dark is not trying to be something completely new or a reinvention.
"We want to keep what's there", says Mikael. With Alone in the Dark, the studio wants to honor the "freaky feeling" of the old games more than trying to recreate it. Despite trying to capture the eerie essence, Alone in the Dark will offer players a completely new story, including a fantastic star cast with Jodie Comer and David Harbour!
Mikael continues to talk about working with Jodie and David, "They are fantastic [...]", and how they brought the protagonists Edward and Emily to life. Originally, the characters were written more in a sense of being a duo, though, Jodie did an amazing job with bringing in sadness and tragedy to her character Emily which changed the route a little. Mikael states how both of them made their characters more interesting than he anticipated in the end!
