While most scenarios call for the latter, if you managed to stumble upon a set of boxing gloves in one of the many treasure boxes scattered across the village you can bring the fight to the guard dogs.

With clear confidence and a route in mind, you can run straight up to any guard dog and bonk them on the head, making them temporarily dizzy and unable to track you. This gives you the perfect opportunity to grab a hard-to-reach snack or to slip into an especially defended area. Just make sure they don’t spot you first when you attempt your bonking.
