Update #03 THEM! Meet Cast and Crew #02 - The Villains!

Today we celebrate the actors who played the villains of “Squadron 51”. Under an astounding characterization, achieved by makeup FX and costume design, those actors brought to life the dreadful antagonists, be they alien or human.

Director Zarog is the leader of the extraterrestrials, manager of the headquarters of the Vega Corporation, the enterprise responsible for the flying saucer’s invasion. He’s played by Cristian Verardi, who is no less than an horror icon in brazillian film circles. You can’t tell by looking at him characterized as an alien villain, but Cristian is not only an actor, but a writer, a poet, a literature graduate, a film critic and festival curator. As a film director, he had his short film “Ne Pas Projeter” played in some of the biggest horror film festivals in the world, like SITGES. During the pandemic, Cristian became also a great Instagrammer, producing content related to horror films and literature, as you can check in @cristianverardi and @avingancadosfilmesb.

He is accompanied by his loyal and stoic alien Advisor. This one is played by the great Frederico Vittola, an experienced theater actor and musician, with a lot of feature films and TV shows under his belt, such as the horror series “Desalma” (2020) and the historic drama “Resistance” (2019). The extraterrestrial plans are only successful because they count with the help of Colonel Bob, an old-school media baron on the likes of William Hearst and Roberto Marinho. A lesser-charming Citizen Kane that becomes Zarog’s lapdog, Bob is responsible for manipulating public opinion on Squadron 51. We invited the renowned actor and comedian Oscar Simch to play the character. One of the most recognizable actors in our state, he’s known not only by his parts in big-scale productions, like the epic “A Casa das Sete Mulheres”, but also for his comedy spectacle “Homens de Perto”, that is being presented for more than 15 years now and counting.

Last, but not least, what is a villain without his minions? We’ve decided to look for twin actors to play the multitude of similar alien minions spread on Earth to protect the extraterrestrial facilities. Through a social networks research, we found the perfect duo. Arthur & Gabriel Chilante are not actors, though they had a little bit of experience in high school plays. Gabriel is currently studying to be a biologist when he’s not dungeon-mastering RPG campaigns, and we’re glad he could overcome his phobia of ETs to play one of ours. Arthur is studying to be an architect and is also a very skilled archer, which was very useful on set when he taught Paula Souza, the actress who plays Captain Zeferina, how to use a bow-and-arrow.
