DEVLOG FILE #001: The Road to the Demo

Hi everyone!Welcome to the very first Pine Creek Devlog. We’d like to thank everyone who has wishlisted the game and followed its development so far. Seeing Pine Creek reach nearly 3,000 wishlists while still being in development has been incredibly motivating for our entire team.Over the coming months, we’ll be using these Devlogs to give you a closer look at the game’s development, share new screenshots, talk about our design decisions, and keep you updated on our progress toward the demo.

Building Pine Creek

Development of the Pine Creek demo began back in November, and the project has grown significantly since then. What started as a much smaller production has evolved into a dedicated team of five developers, supported by talented voice actors, composers, and additional collaborators helping bring the world of Pine Creek to life. Our goal has always been simple: create the kind of atmospheric sci-fi horror experience we grew up loving—one that values tension, mystery, and immersion over cheap scares.

The Demo

We’re excited to announce that the Pine Creek demo is planned to launch this September. It will eventually consist of two chapters from the full game. The first playable chapter, currently in development, is The Abandoned Water Plant, where players begin uncovering the mystery surrounding Pine Creek through exploration, stealth, environmental puzzles, and their first encounters with the unknown. In a later update, we’ll expand the demo by adding the game’s opening chapter, Arrival in Pine Creek, allowing players to experience how David and Sarah first arrive in town before the events of The Abandoned Water Plant unfold.Together, these chapters will offer approximately 30–45 minutes (or even more) of gameplay while introducing the tone, atmosphere, and core mechanics of Pine Creek.

Current Focus

Right now, most of our work is focused on polishing every aspect of the experience. That includes:

  • Improving animations

  • Refining stealth gameplay

  • Expanding cinematics and dialogue

  • Finalizing the save and objective systems

  • Optimizing performance

  • Implementing localization

  • Polishing exploration and environmental storytelling

Rather than rushing toward release, we want the demo to accurately represent the quality we’re aiming for in the full game.

Sneak Peek

Work-in-progress environment screenshots from the Water Plant. The Water Plant is one of the first major locations players will explore in Pine Creek. Our goal with this environment is to capture the unsettling feeling of wandering through an abandoned industrial facility late at night, where every sound and every shadow keeps you questioning whether you’re truly alone.

Creating the Atmosphere

One of the biggest priorities throughout development has been atmosphere. From the lighting and environmental storytelling to the soundtrack and authentic 1980s aesthetic, every decision is made to immerse players in a believable small-town mystery inspired by classic sci-fi and modern survival horror. We want Pine Creek to feel like stepping into a forgotten 1986 mystery—one where curiosity slowly gives way to fear.

What’s Next?

We’ll continue sharing regular development updates as we move closer to the demo.In future Devlogs, we’ll take a closer look at gameplay mechanics, environments, cinematics, sound design, and much more.Thank you again for following our journey.See you in Devlog - File #002.
