Bad Goons Devlog #2 - Wave Spawns, New Weapons & Better Destruction

Grab a playtest key on Discord and join us, August 9 at 19:00 CEST on the EU server! Join the Bad Goons DiscordHey everyone!Bad Goons Devlog #2 is here!

Since the first devlog and our recent playtests, we have been working on a number of systems that affect the flow of battles, team coordination, destruction, and general quality of life. This update includes a completely overhauled spawn system, changes to capturing objectives, improvements to explosions and material durability, a new weapon, looting, better teammate visibility, and a collection of bug fixes.

Wave-based spawning

The spawn system has been overhauled. Instead of players immediately returning to the battlefield individually, players now spawn in waves. The goal is to get teammates back into the fight together rather than having everyone trickle toward the frontline one by one. We want battles to feel more organized while still keeping the game easy to jump into.We have also added a 10-second delay to suicide/respawn.

Reworked capture times

Capture times have been adjusted as we continue refining the pacing of matches. Objectives are one of the main things controlling how the frontline moves across the map, so getting their timing right is especially important for larger battles. We will continue adjusting these values based on playtest feedback.

Better destruction and material resistance

We have also overhauled parts of the explosion system. Different materials now react more appropriately to explosions.Harder materials are harder to destroy, meaning explosions should no longer treat every part of a fortification in the same way.Since digging, building and destroying the battlefield are some of the core mechanics of Bad Goons, this is an important step toward making destruction more predictable and giving different building materials more meaning.

Loot fallen players

You can now loot bodies for ammunition and XP.Running low on ammo during a push does not necessarily mean you have to immediately retreat anymore. Fallen players can become another resource on the battlefield.Just try not to become loot yourself.

New weapon: Grease Gun

A new weapon has joined the Bad Goons arsenal:The Grease GunThere is also a suppressed version available. Both versions are now part of the game and give players another option when choosing their loadout.

Improved teammate visibility

Keeping track of your squad and teammates should now be significantly easier.Teammate names are now visible both in-game and on the map.We have also added team color coding to the UI, making it easier to quickly understand which side information belongs to during a match. These might sound like small changes, but readability becomes increasingly important as we push Bad Goons toward larger player counts.

Playtime counter

The main menu now includes a playtime counter. So now the game can officially keep track of how much time you have spent digging tunnels instead of attacking the objective.

Bug fixes

We have also cleaned up several issues reported during development and testing:

  • Fixed several bugs related to the loadout system

  • Scoreboard player names should no longer stack on top of each other

  • Fixed several typos

  • There are still plenty more typos waiting for us
