Hi fellow bakers!
This is the first development log and a brief introduction of how the game came to be!

Why do I want to make this game?

This game is inspired by a very old game I played when I was a kid. It is called Bakery (released in 2000). Although it was released such a long time ago, it is currently available and playable on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/746620/Bakery/

Even though it is a 2D game and UI/interaction isn't very intuitive, I still had a lot of fun while playing it. Especially after seeing the store filled with different types of bread and unlocking a super chef that could cook any item in 3 seconds.

I always get the warm feeling that "life is good" every time I pass by a bakery and smell the fresh baked bread just being taken out of the oven.

In addition, I am also very much into watching cute animal videos on social media and I’m a big fan of animals.

Therefore, I had this idea of combining my favorite childhood game and cute animals together into a videogame.

What is this game?

As for the basic gameplay, this game will be played similarly to Two Point Hospital/Tavern Master or other simulation games. So if you’ve played something similar before, you should feel right at home playing our game. You will run your own bakery store, research new recipes and expand your selection to meet all the customers preferences to make them happy.

I also enjoy dark humor, so you will meet special customers, who you can chat with and when you do, they will tell you little stories about their crazy lives and might also give you some special bakery requests. Such as a seagull who is always out for robbing stores but seems to fail every time, a groundhog who has 9 personalities, but they are all angry or a cute happy looking dog who actually has to work overtime every day to support his family and you get to hear him complain about it.

In addition to managing the bakery you can also explore the little world outside the bakery. When the store closes for the day, you will control the character to move around the subway and get to work on some gangster related tasks as well.

Yes, there is more to the game than just managing a bakery. The stakes could be much higher than just keeping the bakery afloat.

As fans of Yakuza game series, we have decided that the story revolves around the protagonist who is an undercover police officer. They are assigned to keep an eye on the activity of a recently released gang member - Al Pacano. However, he happened to open a bakery of all the things he could have done after getting out of jail. Weird huh? Your initial task is to join the bakery crew and report their behavior to your higher ups.

Our development progress

What we have built so far:

1. Customers
5 different types of customers have currently been implemented who all have different preferences: students, white collar, blue collar, general and hippies.

2. Bread research

We have 20+ different bread products that can be researched at the research station by a pastry chef. They can mostly be researched in linear sequence and some of them might have special conditions, such as special customer's request or a task etc.

3. Staff/Chef's behavior logic

They will behave depending on what you decide to put on the shelf and what to research.
They will interact with different bakery equipment, based on the recipe. Some recipes require new equipment, so the player must make sure to purchase the required equipment to keep evolving the selection and keep the shelves filled with tasty pastries!

4. Festival feature:

You can host different festivals by completing the special reqirements of the festival when the day of celebration arrives. Depending on the performance, player will be given a rating after the festival. Based on that rating the player will be rewarded – higher ratings grant better rewards.

5. Special Customers:
Customers will share their stories by talking to the player at the checkout counter. Every time their special bread request gets satisfied, you will unlock the next task from them.

6. Main tasks + tutorial:
To get the bakery business going quicker!

What will be added very soon:

7. More pedestrians in the subways.

8. More special behaviors for special customers:
Such as a stinky hobo that is going to stink up the bakery if you don't deal with them in time.
Some thieves that you need to catch yourself.
Beggars that ask you for some free food.

9. NPCs
Different NPCs in the subway will offer you extra buffs, stat bonuses and tasks to complete.

10. Marketing system
You can promote and attract different customers when certain ads are purchased.

11. Anything you as a player would like to see in the game?
